Headaches & Migraines

Headaches & migraines

Headaches and migraines are common conditions that can affect your daily life in many ways. While a regular headache may feel like pressure or tightness around the head, migraines are often more intense and may come with throbbing pain, sensitivity to light, nausea or blurred vision. These issues can develop due to stress, poor posture, muscle tension, dehydration, hormonal changes or nerve sensitivity.

Headaches and migraines often follow a pattern. In the early stage, you may notice mild discomfort, pressure in the forehead, or tightness in the neck and shoulders. During stronger episodes, pain can intensify, sometimes becoming one-sided and pulsating. In more severe cases, migraines may limit your ability to work, focus or tolerate bright lights and noise until proper care helps manage the symptoms.

Types of Headaches & Migraines

Tension Headaches: This is the most common type. It usually feels like a band of pressure around your head. It may be linked to stress, long hours at a desk or tight neck and shoulder muscles.

Migraine Headaches: Migraines are more intense and may cause throbbing pain on one side of the head. Some people experience nausea, light sensitivity or visual disturbances. Triggers vary from person to person.

Cervicogenic Headaches: These headaches start from the neck. Poor posture, stiffness or joint tension in the upper spine can cause pain that travels to the head.

Cluster Headaches: Less common but very painful, these occur in cycles and usually affect one side of the head, often around the eye.

Comprehensive Care for Headaches & Migraines

Rest & Trigger Awareness: Identify and reduce triggers such as stress, screen time, dehydration or poor sleep.
Cold or Warm Compress: A cold pack on the forehead may help during migraines, while heat on the neck can relax tight muscles.
Gentle Stretching & Mobility Exercises: Neck and shoulder stretches can reduce muscle tension and improve circulation
Posture Correction: Improving desk setup and sitting posture can reduce strain on the neck and upper spine.
Hydration & Lifestyle Guidance: Drinking enough water, maintaining sleep routines, and managing stress are important for prevention
Therapy Support: Physiotherapy and manual therapy can ease muscle tension, improve joint movement and reduce headache frequency.

Before Your Appointment

If there are any special instructions for your visit, our team will inform you ahead of time. Most appointments require minimal preparation.

First & Follow-Up Visits

Try not to arrive on a completely empty or overly full stomach. Wear comfortable clothing, especially something that allows easy access to your neck and shoulders.

Your first session usually takes 45–60 minutes. During this time, the therapist will review your health history, discuss your headache patterns, check neck mobility and identify possible triggers. A personalized care plan will then be explained clearly.

During follow-up visits, we encourage you to share any changes in pain frequency, intensity or triggers. This helps us adjust your treatment for steady progress.

Before you leave, we will help you schedule your next appointment at our Surrey clinic.

After Your Appointment

You may feel lighter, more relaxed, or notice reduced tension in your head and neck. Some patients experience mild soreness as tight muscles begin to release — this is normal and temporary.

Applying a cold or warm compress for 10–15 minutes, as advised by your therapist, can help manage any short-term discomfort

GOT A QUESTION

Frequently
Asked Questions

For patients experiencing recurring headaches or migraines, we offer supportive rehabilitation focused on relieving tension and restoring comfort.

01. How do I know if it’s a migraine or a regular headache?
A regular headache often feels like pressure or tightness around the head. A migraine is usually stronger, may throb on one side and can come with nausea or sensitivity to light and sound
02. Can headaches go away on their own?
Sometimes they do, especially if they’re caused by stress, dehydration or lack of sleep. But if they keep coming back or feel intense, it’s a good idea to get them checked.
03. Why do my headaches get worse after screen time?
Long hours on screens can strain your eyes and tighten your neck and shoulder muscles. That tension can slowly build up and trigger a headache.
04. When should I seek professional help?
If the pain is mild, you may be able to walk carefully. However, if walking increases your pain or swelling, you should avoid putting weight on the ankle. Resting in the early stage is important for proper healing.
05. Can I continue working?
In most cases, yes. Taking short breaks, adjusting your posture and stretching regularly can make a big difference.
06. Will therapy really help with migraines?
Yes, it can. Therapy helps relax tight muscles, improve posture and reduce physical triggers, which may lower how often migraines occur over time.
